You Should Have To Pay For These… NFL Week 2 Picks

Starting this week I’ll be making a few NFL picks.  What I will do each week is pick a handful of games: each game played by the Big Apple teams, the Giants and Jets; each Sunday and Monday night game (and Thursday games when they start in November); and the pick I’m using in my survivor pool.  I’ll pick with the point spread on every game except for the survivor game, since those pools do not take the spread into account.  These picks are so sure to be correct, you should have to pay just to see them.  But since I’m a nice guy, I’ll let everyone slide.

New York Giants: Giants (-8.5) at St. Louis Rams

  • The Giants are the easy pick over the Rams, who got trainwrecked in Philly last week to the tune of 38-3.  The Rams are looking like one of the worst teams in the NFL, like they were last season when they were worsted by only the Miami Dolphins.  The Giants should not only win easily, but cover the 8.5 spread with ease.

New York Jets: Jets (-2.5) vs. New England Patriots

  • In what is one of the most anticipated match-ups of Week 2, I have to give the edge to the Patriots.  Neither the Jets nor Patriots looked particularly impressive in Week 1, but each team was able to notch a victory over lesser opponents.  I’m not ready to write off the Tom Brady-less Patriots just yet.  If there is any team that can find a way to overcome the loss of a guy like Brady, it’s the Bill Belichick-led Pats.  And if any team can find a way to blow a golden opportunity, it’s the Jets.  (Sorry Jet fans, but you’ve all been disappointed many times before.  You know it’s true.)  It’s a tough call, but I think the Pats will win the game and therefore beat the spread.

Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5) at Cleveland Browns

  • Based on what I saw in Week 1, Pittsburgh is the no-brainer pick to win the game while covering the spread.

Monday Night: Dallas Cowboys (-6.5) vs Philadelphia Eagles

Survivor Pick

  • For those of you not familiar with survivor pools, here’s how they work: You pick one game every week, straight up, no point spreads.  If your team wins, you stay in.  If they lose, you’re out.  Once you pick a team, you cannot pick them again for the rest of the season.  The last man standing, the Survivor, wins the pool.  My survivor pick for Week 2 is none other than the New York Giants over the St. Louis Rams.  The Rams are abysmal and I am 100% sure the Giants will beat them.  So sure that they’re my survivor pick for Week 2.

Good luck with your picks this week.  I’m sure if you stick to my formula you won’t need much help.  Let’s go Cowboys!

Happy Birthday to Ivan Pavlov, Kid Nichols, Mike Nifong, Tim Wallach, Faith Ford, David Bell, Terrell Fletcher, Nas, Chad Bradford (Tim Sharobem’s favorite relief pitcher of all-time), Frostee Rucker, Delmon Young, and the greatest head coach in the history of the New York Knicks: Larry Brown
